Description

Dedicated to The sweet Marco.
I remember when your owner turned you in, he said you had too much energy and you were not a good guard dog, you weren't the 'type of pit bull' he wanted. If he had done any research on your breed he would have known you weren't going to be the best guard dog, and that you were going to be an energetic pup...Too bad he never took it upon himself to open a book.

I remember when you and your owner said your goodbyes, when he turned to leave and you pulled and fought to get to him. You barked and cried, he didn't even give you a second glance.

I remember when we first put you in the kennel, and you had the most confused look in your eyes..As if to say “why am I here”, Than your tail started to wag and you licked the kennel door. You were a confused dog, But a happy dog.

I remember the first time I brought you into the yard, how you rolled and ran in the snow, how you were so happy just to be out. I remember how fast you ate every stick we played with...You devoured every toy too.

I remember the first time I tried to put you back in to the kennel; you stopped dead in your tracks and looked at me, not wanting to go back in. I gave you a tug, and you continued into the kennel.

I remember how you ran to greet everyone who passed your kennel, with a lick on the cage door and a wagging tail. You were such a happy dog, so desperate for love, desperate for attention..

I remember how all the shelter workers and volunteers loved you, and how hard we tried to get you into a rescue, and how much we hoped you'd get adopted.

I remember the end of your first full week, and how much you had changed, that happiness in your eyes, that forever go-lucky expression was gone. You barely acknowledged those who passed your kennel. I took you for a nice long walk, and to play in the yard. Hoping to cheer you up...And it worked, while you were out you romped and played and had that same happiness you had when I first met you.... But when it was time to go back in the kennel you fought me, with everything inside of you; you bit the leash, stood on your hind legs and pulled, desperate not to go back in the cage...

Soon after you stopped eating, you started chewing on the chain link, and on the metal door in the back of your run..And you'd chew and chew, your mouth would bleed, but you didn't stop. You didn't look to see anyone who passed your cage...All you did was pace the run and chew on the metal.

I brought you to my vet. In hopes that it was a medical problem we could fix. We loved you a lot, you touched all of out hearts....But sadly we couldn't find any medical reason for your behavior.

The day after you just laid in the kennel, and you seemed completely broken. We decided it was time to put you down, and even though you were our favorite..It'd be what's best for you.

The next die when I came into your run, I think you knew, you walked over to me with your head down, I leashed you and we walked to the euth room.
I remember holding you during your last moments, you licked my face, and wagged your tail one last time, and you were gone.

To think this all could have been prevented had your old owner done some research before buying you.

Rest in Peace Marco.
